Each pack comes in a dispenser or vial with a colour chart and easy to follow instructions. Keep the cap closed between uses so moisture doesn't affect the reagent pad.

How chemical testing with a reagent test strip works in a liquid sample

Each test strip has a pad treated with a reagent that changes colour when it reacts with a compound in the liquid. The depth of colour shows the concentration. It's a simple colorimetric method, so there's no electronic tester to calibrate.

Take a strip and close the container straight away.

Dip the pad into the sample for the time shown on the pack.

Remove it and wait for the colour to develop.

Liquid reagent test kits and digital instruments can give finer readings, which suits laboratory or regulatory work. Test strips are cheaper, quicker and easier to use, which makes them the better choice for routine on-site checks by kitchen and production staff. Many sites use strips day to day and a liquid kit or lab analysis for verification.
