Hydrion universal pH test strips, pH 0-14 with colour chart: pack contains 100pcs

These universal strips cover the full scale, with a match at every step. They give accurate pH testing for food businesses, labs, schools and home users who need a simple check without a meter.

  • pH 0 to 14 with the chart on the vial
  • 100pcs per vial, so one pack gives you 100 pH tests
  • Results in seconds, easy to read
  • Indicator pad on the end of the strip, so your fingers stay clear of the sample
  • No batteries or calibration needed

How to use pH strips: instant results in seconds

For the most accurate measurement, test at room temperature and read the strip straight away. Keep the vial sealed, cool and dry, as moisture and light can affect the indicator.

01

Take one strip from the vial and close the lid straight away.

02

Dip the end of the strip into the liquid for a second or two.

03

Remove it and compare it against the chart.

04

Read the closest match and record the pH.

What the strips tell you about acid, alkaline and acidity

pH tells you how acidic or alkaline a sample is. A pH of 7 is neutral. Below 7 is acid and above 7 is alkaline. Each step on the scale is a tenfold change, so small differences matter.

Checking acidity is a key part of food safety and quality, as pH controls the growth of bacteria in many foods.

pH test strip vs test paper, litmus and a pH meter

Litmus paper only shows if a sample is acid or alkaline. A universal strip shows the actual pH number, so you get far more useful information.

Strips are cheaper and simpler than a meter. If you need readings to two decimal places, or test lots of samples each day, a calibrated pH meter is the better tool.

pH test strip questions

Where strips are used, how accurate they are and what they are not for.

Where pH test paper strips are used: lab, brewing, fermentation, water quality, pool and aquarium balance, soap
  • Food production: sauces, dressings, pickles and acidified foods
  • Brewing and fermentation: beer, wine, kombucha and sourdough
  • Water quality: drinking water, rinse water and process water
  • Pool and aquarium: a quick check of water balance
  • Soap and cosmetics: checking a batch of handmade soap
  • Lab and school: teaching and general testing
Reading the colour chart for an accurate measurement

Are pH strips accurate? Yes, when used correctly. Full-range indicator strips read to about 1 pH unit, which is reliable enough for most routine checks. Strongly coloured or cloudy samples can be harder to read, so a pH meter may suit those better.

pH strips vs test strips for urinalysis: can I test urine?

Some people use them to check urine or saliva at home. These aren't test strips for urinalysis and aren't a medical device. If you have a health concern, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Can I use pH strips to check sanitiser strength?

pH strips tell you acidity, not sanitiser concentration. For chlorine, quat or peracetic acid levels, use our chemical test strips.
